National Geographic Announces World Legacy Awards Finalists
Out of 150 World Legacy Awards entries, representing 51 countries and six continents, 15 Finalists in five award categories were selected. Details on all finalists can be found at www.nationalgeographic.com/
The World Legacy Awards, a partnership between the National Geographic Society and ITB Berlin, showcase the leading travel and tourism companies, organizations and destinations – ranging from large resorts to small eco-lodges and from wildlife conservancies to geoparks – driving the sustainable tourism transformation of the travel industry.
The winners will be announced on stage during the World Legacy Awards ceremony at the ITB Future Day.
On 11 March 2016 winners and jury members will discuss on a joint panel at the ITB CSR Day.
Welcome, Mario! The First Humanoid Hotel Robot And His Fathers Discuss The Digital World
Digitization will be given a face at the ITB Hospitality Day: „Mario“. The first humanoid hotel robot from Belgium introduces himself. He is 48 cm tall, weighs 12 kg and speaks 19 languages. His creator and his boss, the general manager, explain why he was created and why he is now working at the Ghent Marriott Hotel.
Later on Mario will be participating actively in the convention so that all our attendees can get to know him better.
ITB CEO Interview: The Future Of Marketing And Communication
Digital technologies are revolutionizing product development, distribution, pricing and, most notably, communication and advertising. Conventional methods are no longer effective, in the future the emphasis will be on individualization, content, relevance – and data.
Christoph Bornschein, CEO of the legendary agency "Torben, Lucie und die Gelbe Gefahr", uses best practice examples to show how marketing and communication will operate in the future, as well as how companies must transform themselves in order to remain competitive in the digital age.
Future Outlook: Peace through tourism
Armed conflicts are currently taking place in many areas of the world. Tourism is increasingly viewed as a strategy for international understanding and peace-building.
How can tourism be used in a concrete way to prevent violent conflicts?
The multiple award-winning, renowned keynote speaker Aziz Abu Sarah shows how peace initiatives and corporate success can be combined in the travel industry.
Start-Ups Battle For Destinations – In Cooperation With DIHK
Startups develop many useful products and services for many industries – including tourism destinations. But often new ideas and potential users are unable to find one another. Or the people responsible in the destinations simply don’t have the time to get an overview of the best ideas and offers.
DIHK and ITB looked into many outstanding, innovative startups and invited the best to participate in the “Battle”.
Brief presentations by the startups and the following questions from a jury of experts will deliver insight into new instruments for business and destinations!
Travel technology, mobile solutions and social media in the travel industry are the lecture and workshop topics of ITB Berlin's eTravel World, taking place from 09 - 12 March 2016 in hall 6.1.
Participants will be introduced to the hottest new products of the travel technology world and the winner of the “Best Travel Industry App – Mobile Services 2015“ sponsored by the Travel Industry Club (TIC), urlaubspiraten.de, will be presented.
Also of great interest is a session on targeted social media marketing, presented by COMPASS. Storytelling is another exciting topic that will be discussed thoroughly.
Using Austria Tourism as a best practice case, the market research company Tourismuszukunft will provide insights into the learning-by-doing process of relaunch projects.
A debut will happen on ITB Wednesday: "Start Tourism Up", a start-up contest at ITB eTravel World.
