Dr. Angela Kalisch is the founding director of ethical tourism consultancy, Ananta, and the chair of the UK-based non-profit organisation Equality in Tourism International. Equality in Tourism promotes women’s empowerment and equal rights for women in the tourism and hospitality industry. She is the main author of Equality in Tourism’s report 'Sun, Sand and Ceilings – Women in Tourism and Hospitality Boardrooms 2018' With a doctorate in Fair Trade in Tourism, she combines a pragmatic, solutions-oriented business approach with rigorous academic research for practical application in the field. This includes running her own adventure travel operation in the Himalayas, developing international tourism policy on Fair Trade in Tourism, and creating practical tools for the implementation of sustainable tourism and Corporate Social Responsibility for major tourism organisations and government agencies. Angela’s academic and consultancy experience in tourism includes international research projects and multi-stakeholder engagement in the UK, as well as in Africa and Asia. She has researched, published, lectured and worked particularly on justice issues in tourism, including gender equality.
